CHICAGO – May 19, 2008 – Invenergy announced that its 350 MW Cannon Falls Energy Centerhas commenced commercial operation. The Cannon Falls Energy Center is located in CannonFalls, Minnesota. The facility is owned and operated by Invenergy with all power sold to XcelEnergy under a long term power purchase agreement.
Michael Polsky, CEO of Invenergy, commented “We are pleased to be working with Xcel Energyto help them meet the growing electricity demand in Minnesota. This project represents anotherimportant piece of Invenergy’s growing portfolio of clean energy facilities.”
According to Karen Hyde, Xcel Energy’s vice president of resource planning and acquisition, the plant will play an important role in meeting the needs of Xcel Energy’s customers in the UpperMidwest. “We welcome the Cannon Falls Energy Center’s contribution to our electric system.”
The Cannon Falls Energy Center is comprised of two General Electric Model 7FA simple cycle combustion turbines and associated equipment. Each combustion turbine is capable of producing approximately 175 MW of electricity. The facility will be utilized to assist in meeting peak power demands in the region. General Electric Company served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor. The Royal Bank of Scotland served as lead arranger and underwriter on the financing for the project.
