CHICAGO (April 18, 2019) – Invenergy, a leading privately-held developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions, today published its Invenergy Impact: 2018 Sustainability Report. The report highlights the company’s contribution to greater environmental, economic and social sustainability, known as Invenergy Impact. The report’s cover photo, a close-up of four cows on grazing land with a wind turbine in the background, was the most-liked photo on the company’s Instagram page in 2018, which was accompanied by a post inviting followers to join the sustainable energy “mooovement.”
Sustainable business growth drives Invenergy’s broader sustainability efforts. Last year Invenergy experienced 25 percent growth in its portfolio of operating and advanced development projects. The company invested $3.1 billion to construct new energy facilities, which supported 3,695 jobs mostly in rural communities and small towns. The number of full-time Invenergy employees also grew nearly 7 percent, to just over 950 employees worldwide.

The Invenergy Impact: 2018 Sustainability Report reflects the company’s investments related to three core pillars: Environmental Stewardship, Community Investment and Empowering People. Highlights from each of these areas include:
Environmental Stewardship
- In 2018, projects developed by Invenergy offset an additional 14 million tons of carbon dioxide pollution, the equivalent of planting 300 million trees or taking half a million cars off the road.
- The company last year supported a variety of causes including conservation research and organizations that embody a commitment to sustainability and the environment.
- Across the organization, Invenergy reduced paper use by 48 percent in 2018, even as the number of Invenergy employees grew by 7 percent.
Community Investment
- Invenergy energy centers generated $160 million of economic investment in its home communities in 2018. These investments provide economic stability by supporting workers and landowners, as well as state and local governments.
- The company invested $1 million in cause-based giving and volunteer time to nonprofits and charitable organizations.
Empowering People
- Invenergy Services employees last year received 48 hours of safety training on average per employee. Training and other measures ensure a strong safety culture and have helped the company achieve its lowest incident and lost work rates.
- Last year Invenergy hosted 40 women in the energy industry at its Chicago office for an evening of insights and conversation at the “Women in Energy Networking Event.” The event included a panel discussion on clean energy trends around energy policy, emerging technologies and community engagement.
- Invenergy partnered with HBCU 20x20, a national diversity and inclusion organization that connects students and alumni from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with jobs and internships, to host students and graduates for “A Day with Invenergy.”
- Military veterans make up more than 10 percent of the company’s U.S. workforce, and Invenergy is proud of its continuing role as the founding sponsor of the Veterans Advanced Energy Summit, which inspires continued service through careers in energy.
