Invenergy wraps up in Colorado

Invenergy has started commercial operations at the 32.5MW Spring Canyon 2 expansionproject in northeast Colorado.
The wind farm, located near the Town of Peetz about 130 miles northeast of Fort Collins, features 19 GE 1.7MW 100 turbines.
Output from Spring Canyon 2 is sold to the Platte River Power Authority under a long-termagreement. Wanzek Construction served as the general contractor and ECI performedengineering services.
Platte River will also purchase 27.5MW to be generated at the Spring Canyon 3 wind project, where crews are constructing 16 GE turbines. Spring Canyon 3 is scheduled to begincommercial operations by the end of this year.
“The purchase of additional wind energy from Spring Canyon 2 and 3 supports Platte River’sstrategic initiative to further diversify our generation portfolio,” said Platte River general managerand CEO Jackie Sargent.
"Together, the two projects will increase our wind energy supply to about 11% of the powerconsumed annually in our four owner municipalities. Including hydropower, the total portion ofenergy supplied to the municipalities from non-fossil resources will be approximately 30%.”
The expansion projects are sited near Invenergy’s original 60MW Spring Canyon wind farm, which has been in operation since 2006.
