CLEAN HYDROGEN

Powering the next generation of clean energy.

As decarbonization accelerates, the world looks for new ways to replace fossil fuels with renewable resources. One emerging technology is clean hydrogen, or hydrogen produced from renewable electricity. This innovative solution effectively decarbonizes energy from fossil fuels used in transportation and industrial feedstocks.

How 100% clean hydrogen works

HydrogenHowitWorks_illustration_biggernumbers.png
  1. 1

Electricity is generated via renewable energy sources.

  2. 2

Electricity goes through an electrolyzer, which breaks down water into hydrogen and oxygen.

  3. 3

Produced hydrogen then goes through compression or liquefaction to occupy less space.

  4. 4

    Hydrogen is stored in tanks.

  5. 5

Hydrogen is distributed for various uses, including transportation and industrial decarbonization.

Why clean hydrogen

Clean hydrogen offers solutions for industries that produce significant greenhouse gas emissions. Clean hydrogen production from renewables results in less CO2 than clean hydrogen production from fossil fuels and carbon capture or than conventional hydrogen production from fossil fuels without any emissions-mitigation measures.

Sauk Valley Hydrogen

Located on five acres of land near Invenergy’s Nelson Energy Center in Illinois, Sauk Valley will produce clean hydrogen from dedicated solar and renewable grid power.  The plant will produce approximately 40 metric tons of clean hydrogen per year via water electrolysis. The project also includes a compressor, stationary ground storage, and a fill station with a mobile tube trailer bay for delivery by truck. The Sauk Valley Hydrogen Center will be operational and delivering clean hydrogen in 2024.
