Celebrating the Launch of Out in Energy, a Network for LGBTQ+ Professionals in the Energy Sector

The sustainable energy industry prides itself on making the world a better place and is full of energetic individuals passionate about the well-being of our communities and building a bright future for all. Likewise, at Invenergy, we take great pride in the innovative spirit that has made us a leader in the energy space. Being a leader also means advancing the industry to be a more inclusive and welcoming place for all our colleagues.
Invenergy+, Invenergy’s employee affinity group for LGBTQ+ employees and their allies, is proud to announce its co-sponsorship of Out in Energy, a professional network for LGBTQ+ individuals in the sustainable energy industry.
Hosted by The Atlantic Council, a nonpartisan think tank dedicated to US leadership and engagement in international affairs, Out in Energy serves as a community development and visibility incubator for LGBTQ+ professionals working in the energy and climate sectors in the United States. The goal is to elevate the voices of LGBTQ+ energy and climate leaders, support the career development of younger LGBTQ+ professionals, and connect LGBTQ+ job seekers with businesses and government agencies that interest them professionally.
Discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees has historically disadvantaged a large percentage of the workforce and has minimized opportunities for LGBTQ+ people in many fields. While addressing inequities for LGBTQ+ individuals in the professional world is complex and multi-dimensional, we are hopeful that this partnership serves as a significant step forward in building a stronger and safer community within the energy industry and at Invenergy.
“The sustainable energy industry was founded on innovation and openness to new ideas,” says Andrew Wills, Invenergy’s Director of Federal Affairs and Chairperson of Invenergy+. “The generations now entering the workforce are interested in sustainability and the promise of renewables, but they also want to make sure that everyone feels empowered to pursue their passions and contribute.”
We are excited to announce this partnership as we celebrate Pride Month throughout June and look forward to the ways we can continue to empower our LGBTQ+ employees.
