Dominion Energy, Invenergy Dedicate Hardin I Solar Facility

ALGER, Ohio (October 26, 2021) – Richmond, Va.-based Dominion Energy and Chicago-based Invenergy today dedicated the Hardin I Solar Energy Center, located in Hardin County, Ohio. It is the second-largest operating solar farm in Ohio.
Dominion Energy acquired Hardin I, a 150-megawatt (AC) solar energy project, from Invenergy in 2020, and construction activities were completed later that year. Invenergy Services, a subsidiary of Invenergy, will provide the facility’s operations and maintenance and balance of plant services under a long-term agreement, adding to the 10-gigawatt global sustainable energy project portfolio it manages.
“Dominion Energy is thrilled to dedicate this clean energy project in Western Ohio today,” said Jim Eck, general manager and vice president of the company’s Cleveland-based gas utility serving 1.3 million customer accounts in West Virginia and Ohio, including in Hardin County. “We appreciate the support of Hardin County officials, the Ohio Power Siting Board, Invenergy and all others who helped make this exciting project a reality.”
“Invenergy is proud to deliver the Hardin Solar Energy Center for our partner Dominion Energy and the Buckeye State,” said Michael Kaplan, Senior Vice President, Renewable Development, Invenergy. “Bringing this project online marks the fulfillment of a commitment made to Hardin County and its residents to invest here and to work in partnership to build a more sustainable world.”
Developed and constructed by Invenergy, the Hardin I Solar Energy Center is contracted under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Facebook, which was signed prior to the project’s construction. Facebook will purchase all the electricity generated at the facility as well as the renewable energy credits.
The project is Dominion Energy’s first solar energy investment in Ohio. It owns nearly 2,500 megawatts of solar capacity across 10 states.
