CHICAGO (May 29, 2019) – Invenergy Japan G.K. (“Invenergy”) and SB Energy Corp. (“SB Energy”), a Japanese wholly-owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group Corp., announced the start of commercial operation of the 10.3-megawatt dc Koumi Kogen Solar Farm.
Koumi Kogen Solar Farm, operated by Koumi Kogen Solar Energy G.K., is located in Nagano Prefecture, approximately 100 miles northwest of Tokyo. The facility will generate a total of 12,472,000 kWh per year, enough electricity to power approximately 3,464 Japanese homes annually.
“This is Invenergy’s first operating project in Japan and represents a significant milestone for us as a global developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions,” said Jim Murphy, President and Chief Operating Officer, of Invenergy. “SB Energy is a strong partner with a remarkable reputation, and we are pleased to share this achievement as we collaborate to accelerate the growth of renewables in Japan.”
“We are extremely pleased about the launch of the commercial operation of Koumi Kogen Solar Farm through our collaboration with Invenergy a company promoting the global adoption and expansion of renewable energy based on its wealth of knowledge and experience,” said Shigeki Miwa, Representative Director & CEO of SB Energy. “This joint undertaking is a cornerstone for SB Energy to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy domestically and abroad.”
Since opening its first office in Tokyo in 2013, Invenergy has worked to advance its development pipeline of approximately 340 megawatts of solar and wind projects in Japan, and is currently expanding its portfolio to include offshore wind. As a result of its growing presence in the country, the company is expanding its Japan team and has recently relocated to a new, larger Tokyo office.
The partnership between Invenergy and SB Energy combines Invenergy’s international experience with advanced, large-scale development and SB Energy’s domestic know-how accumulated through various solar projects in Japan.
