Invenergy Celebrates Ground Breaking for Lackawanna Energy Center

CHICAGO (April 25, 2016) – Leading clean energy company Invenergy LLC (“Invenergy”) onSaturday held a groundbreaking ceremony at its nominal 1500 MW Lackawanna Energy Center(LEC) in Jessup, Pa. The LEC is expected to be operational in 2018.
The Lackawanna Energy Center will be one of the most efficient power plants in the United States.Equipped with GE’s latest technology, LEC will generate fewer emissions and feature the highest-efficiency combustion turbines in their class. As a combined-cycle facility, it will maximize usage ofthe heat from natural gas as fuel, increasing efficiency. The facility will be compact andenvironmentally-friendly and far more advanced than earlier generations of natural gas plants.
“The Lackawanna Energy Center will be one of the best power plants in the country, and it is animportant project for the community,” said Invenergy’s Founder, President and CEO Michael Polsky.“On behalf of the Invenergy team, I want to thank the Jessup community for welcoming us, thankyou for standing with us and thank you for seeing the opportunity this project represents.”
During construction, which will be facilitated by Kiewit Power Constructors, the project will employup to 800 construction labor jobs during peak construction months. The construction contract wasawarded to Kiewit because of their solid track record of engineering and constructing projects withproven reliability.
Once operational, Lackawanna Energy Center will employ 30 full-time employees. Over the lifespanof the project, LEC will bring significant economic impact and benefits to the community, beginningwith a quarter million dollars in annual payments during the first year of the construction period.
