Invenergy Celebrates Official Opening of Buckeye Wind Energy Center

CHICAGO (Dec. 11, 2015) – Leading clean energy company Invenergy LLC (“Invenergy”) onThursday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its 200 MW Buckeye Wind Energy Center in EllisCounty, Kansas.
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback joined Invenergy employees, local legislators Sue Boldra,Don Hineman and Ralph Ostmeyer, and several members of the community for the ceremonyand a turbine tour to officially mark the opening of the facility.
“As a national leader in wind potential, Kansas is pleased to welcome the Buckeye Wind EnergyCenter, representing new investments and jobs in this important industry for our state,” saidGovernor Brownbeck.
The facility features 112 GE 1.79 MW wind turbines. Buckeye is located near the city of Hays,approximately 200 miles northwest of the city of Wichita. A significant portion of the projectoutput will be sold to Lincoln Electric System (in Lincoln, Nebraska) under a long-term PowerPurchase Agreement.
“Kansas is one of the nation’s top ten states for installed wind, and we’re pleased to celebratethe opening of our first project here,” said Kelly Meyer, Invenergy’s Vice President ofDevelopment. “This state-of-the-art facility allows us to provide long-term, clean energy to ourcustomers in the region.”
The Buckeye Wind Energy Center employs a full-time staff of 12 employees. In all, the facilitywill contribute approximately $3 million annually to the local economy in staff salaries andlandowner and PILOT payments.
With the addition of the Buckeye Wind Energy Center, Invenergy now has an operating windproject portfolio of more than 4,100MW, with facilities across the United States, Canada and inEurope.
