Invenergy, Verizon partner to procure over 1 GW in renewable energy

  • Verizon signs four VPPAs with Invenergy, bringing total procured clean energy between the two companies to over 1 gigawatt (GW)
  • American-made clean energy will meet growing demand
CHICAGO, IL (02/19/2025) -- Invenergy, the largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of clean energy solutions, today announced four new Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPA) with Verizon totaling 640 MW of power. These agreements enable Verizon to meet its power needs with cleaner, more reliable, affordable American energy. Verizon’s total procured energy from Invenergy is now more than 1 GW.
“America’s economic growth relies on reliable, affordable electricity, and valued customers like Verizon trust Invenergy to flexibly meet their clean energy needs with our engineering expertise and wide range of technologies,” said Chris Orzel, Invenergy's Senior Vice President of Origination. “In addition to serving our customer’s growing power needs, Invenergy’s projects deliver jobs and economic benefits to local communities and add more American energy to the grid.”
"Surpassing 1 GW in clean energy procurement from Invenergy represents a key milestone in Verizon’s long-term energy strategy,” said James Gowen, Senior Vice President, Global Sourcing and Supply Chain and Chief Sustainability Officer, Verizon. "It’s great to continue to build on our long-standing relationship with Invenergy as we create resilient networks that support our customers’ needs and keep them connected when it matters most.”
The latest VPPAs are contracted through four Invenergy-developed facilities strategically located across the United States, including Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, and Ohio:
  • Richfield Solar (MD) - 50 MW - Operational in 2024
  • Maple Flats (IL) - 250 MW - Operational in 2024
  • Cadence Solar (OH) - 240 MW – Expected Commercial Operations 202
  • Chalk Bluff (AR) - 100 MW – Expected Commercial Operations 2027
The electricity generated by all four Invenergy-developed projects will be delivered to local grids through two energy markets across four states, increasing regional reliability by providing power to nearby homes and businesses. Verizon will receive clean energy credits for bringing new generation capacity online.
