Invenergy’s Camilla Solar Energy Project to Supply Georgia Power Program

CHICAGO, IL (May 1, 2018) – Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held renewable energy company, today announced that it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Georgia Power through its subsidiary Camilla Solar Energy LLC (“Camilla Solar”). Georgia Power will purchase power from the 160 MWac Camilla Solar project currently under development in Mitchell County, Georgia.
Camilla Solar is scheduled to begin commercial operation by year-end 2019 and will create more than 400 jobs during construction. The project will generate more than $12 million in local economic development in its first 10 years of operation through tax payments, lease payments to participating landowners, and wages and benefits for employees.
“Invenergy is pleased to work with Georgia Power to help them deliver clean, reliable solar energy to their customers,” said Invenergy EVP and Chief Commercial Officer Jim Shield. “As North America’s largest privately-held renewable power provider, Invenergy is proud to help leading utilities like Georgia Power take advantage of the economic value, energy diversity and sustainability benefits that solar energy provides.”
Georgia Power has entered into a PPA to buy all the energy, environmental attributes and electrical products from the facility through 2049. This is part of Georgia Power’s Commercial & Industrial Renewable Energy Development Initiative (C&I REDI), designed to further the growth of renewable energy goals in Georgia while also helping C&I customers meet renewable energy goals.
“We are committed to working with the Georgia Public Service Commission to create programs, like REDI, that help grow renewable energy in Georgia and add value for all of our customers,” said Wilson Mallard, Director of Renewable Development for Georgia Power. “Recently completed large-scale solar projects across Georgia are serving customers today, and this Camilla solar facility will be the latest addition, allowing Georgia Power customers to benefit from cost-effective, competitive solar as part of our diverse generation mix.”
