CHICAGO (May 9, 2016) – Invenergy LLC (“Invenergy”), North America's largest independentrenewable power generation company, received the Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 EDIEAward for Top Energy Project in the state. Invenergy received the award for its Nelson Energy Center(NEC) located in Lee County, Illinois. The EDIE Awards are given annually by the Illinois Chamberof Commerce to recognize those who imagine, design, invest, build and bring jobs, growth andprosperity to Illinois communities. Invenergy will be presented with the award at a ceremony nextmonth.

Invenergy’s Nelson Energy Center is a 580 MW natural gas fired combined-cycle power plant thathas been in operation since 2015. Since its inception, the NEC has delivered a substantial economicimpact to the state of Illinois, including the creation of more than 350 jobs during the constructionphase and 24 full-time jobs post construction. Over the next ten years, the local community will seeat least $6.5 million of additional property taxes, in addition to millions of dollars contributed to localbusinesses. The NEC has also invested in its community through donations to schools, firstresponders and veterans’ organizations.
At a regional level, the NEC produces enough electricity to power more than 640,000 homes. Thepower from the plant is sold into the PJM Interconnection wholesale market, which stretches fromIllinois to the eastern seaboard and serves 61 million customers. The Nelson Energy Center is oneof a growing number of natural gas-fired plants which use abundant, reliable, domestically sourcednatural gas to produce electricity. These plants lower overall costs to homes and businesses, whichultimately supports the continued economic growth of our communities. In addition, the technologyemployed by NEC is designed to maximize flexibility and efficiency, which supports the continuedintegration of renewable energy into the electric grid.
