This year, American Clean Power Week is highlighting the many ways in which sustainable energy benefits the American economy, from supporting local communities to creating well-paying industry jobs. Clean energy has consistently been one of the fastest growing industries in modern times as families and businesses realize the countless benefits of building a more sustainable world.
Crucial to the growth of clean energy have been the contributions of US military veterans, who find the industry a great match for their technical experience, discipline, and community-oriented mindset. Moreover, clean energy is critical to US national security and prosperity, and many veterans find jobs in sustainable energy fulfill an ongoing sense of duty to the country.
The American clean energy industry recognizes what veterans have to offer and there are training programs specifically designed to prepare veterans for a career in sustainable energy. Approximately 10 percent of employees at our Chicago headquarters and 16 percent of Invenergy Services technicians are military veterans, a trend seen across the industry and higher than the national average.
“We hold our Veterans in high regard, not only in the contributions they have made in protecting our freedom, but also because of the skills and experience they bring to our organization,” says Director, Operations Support Frank Santiago, who served six years in the Navy. “Invenergy recognizes and harnesses the talents and drive of Veterans along with honoring their sense of purpose which propels the vision of a greater, more sustainable earth.”
There are numerous professional development and networking events each year for veterans in the industry or those interested in pursuing a career in sustainable energy. American Clean Power’s Mentorship Program, for example, pairs mentors from Fortune 500 companies with veterans looking to build on their career experience, while Invenergy is the founding sponsor of the Veterans Advanced Energy Project, a “leading forum dedicated to veterans, reservists and military spouses working to strengthen U.S. national security through careers in the advanced energy sector.” Invenergy is also proud to support our Invenergy Veterans Network (IVN), an affinity group whose mission is to enhance the professional experience of veterans within the company.
We have a duty to give back to those willing to put their lives on the line to safeguard our country. Building a clean energy economy is one way to support our veterans, all while building a more sustainable world overall. Recently, Invenergy was proud to announce we would be furthering our commitment to veterans through a new partnership with Airstreams Renewables, Inc. https://invenergy.com/news/inv...Read the full announcement here.
